What we hold, why, and the one thing we never see: anything you shoot.

  • Captures never leave your Mac

Nothing uploaded on its own, no backup, nothing to opt out of.

  • Your email, for the licence

Held so the key can be sent and re-sent.

  • No analytics in the app

It does not report what you shoot or how you use it.

Your captures never leave your Mac

This is the part that matters, so it goes first. Photos, videos, screen recordings and edits are written to your own machine — the app’s library and Photos — and are never uploaded. There is no server-side storage for them, no backup of them, and no way for us to look at them. Not because we promise not to, but because nothing in the app sends them anywhere on its own.

Two things can carry part of a capture out, and both are yours to choose. Transcribe, on a clip in the library, runs on your own API key: the clip’s audio goes from your Mac straight to the provider whose key you added (Groq or OpenAI), under your own account with them — it never passes through us, and nothing is transcribed unless you ask. And a report you send from the app carries a picture only if you attach one.

Cappture works with the network turned off. That is the clearest proof of this claim available, and you can check it yourself in under a minute.

What we actually hold

When you buy a licence:

  • Your email address, so we can send you the key and find your licence when you write to us.
  • Your licence key and whether it is active.
  • Stripe’s identifiers for the checkout and payment, so a refund can be matched to the right licence.

When you activate a Mac:

  • A one-way hash of the machine identifier, a name for the machine so you can tell your Macs apart on your licence page, and when it was last seen.

When you use the trial:

  • Nothing. The seven days are counted on your Mac, and starting a trial sends us nothing at all.

If you write to us or send feedback:

  • What you sent — your message, and your name and email if you gave them — plus the app version and macOS version, which are what make a bug report actionable.

About that hash

The machine identifier is hashed with SHA-256 on your Mac, and only the result is sent. The original never leaves the machine, and the hash cannot be turned back into it.

It exists so a five-Mac licence covers five Macs. It is a counter, not a profile: it is not linked to your name, your address or anything you have captured, and it is not used for analytics or advertising.

What we do not collect

  • No analytics or telemetry in the app. It does not report what you photograph, which features you use, or how often you open it.
  • No advertising identifiers, and no third-party trackers on this site.
  • No card details. Stripe handles payment; we never see your card number.
  • No location, no contacts, no browsing history.

Who else is involved

Three companies process data on our behalf, and only what they need to do their job:

  • Stripe — payment. They handle your card; we receive an email address and an identifier.
  • Convex — the database holding the records listed above.
  • Resend — sending email: your key, sign-in links, and replies.

We do not sell data to anyone, and there is no advertising business attached to this product.

How long we keep it

Licence records are kept while the licence exists, since a licence you can no longer prove you own is not much of a licence. There are no trial records to keep. Messages you send us are kept while they are useful and deleted when they are not.

What you can ask for

Email hello@getcappture.com and you can have a copy of everything we hold about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted. We will do it within thirty days and usually the same week.

Deleting your data means deleting your licence too — the licence is the record — so we will say so before we do it.

When Cloud comes

Cappture Cloud is coming, and it will be optional — off until you turn it on. Nothing in this policy changes for anyone who never does.

If you turn it on, your captures will be end-to-end encrypted: locked on your Mac with AES-256-GCM before anything is sent, each with its own key, under keys that never leave your Macs. You will hold five security keys, one for each Mac; there is no password reset and no key of ours that opens your library.

What we will hold is ciphertext. We will be able to see how much space you use and when files arrive, because storage needs that to work. We will not be able to see a picture, a file name, a date inside it or the text in it — those are encrypted with the capture.

A secure link carries its key after the #, which browsers never send to a server, so a picture you share is opened in your recipient’s browser and never by us. And if you connect your own AI, its requests go from your Mac straight to the provider you chose, never through us.
